Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC) is approved to participate in and administer Veteran Education programs. As a veteran or military-affiliated student, you play an important role in securing your education benefits prior to enrollment. The Veterans Affairs (VA) team is here to assist you every step of the way.

New Applicants: Steps to Get Started

  1. Apply and be admitted to GPTC. Submit all required admissions documents.
  2. Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs to determine eligibility and activate your benefits. We also recommend registering with eBenefits .
  3. Complete the Veteran Information Form .
  4. Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to veterans@gptc.edu.
  5. Meet with your advisor and register for your first term. Minimum credit requirements may apply depending on your benefits chapter.

Eligible Programs

GPTC can only certify certificate, diploma, or degree programs approved and listed in the official GPTC Catalog.

Prohibition on Inducements & High-Pressure Recruiting

GPTC holds a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to ensure fair and transparent education options for service members. GPTC will:

  1. Ban inducements (gratuities, discounts, gifts, etc.) offered for the purpose of securing enrollments or Tuition Assistance (TA) funds. Institutional scholarships and military tuition reductions are permissible.
  2. Prohibit commission-based recruitment or incentive payments tied to enrollment or federal financial aid.
  3. Refrain from high-pressure recruiting tactics, including excessive unsolicited contacts or same-day recruitment and registration for service members.

Military Tuition Assistance (TA)

Military Tuition Assistance is a benefit available to eligible service members in all branches of the U.S. military. Prior to enrolling, service members should consult with their Education Service Officer (ESO) or counselor. Once approved, submit your TA form to the Bursar’s Office or Veteran Student Liaison for processing.

Continuation of Benefits

Certifications are completed within 30 days of the term start date, following drop/add. This ensures timely processing of housing and book stipends. Notify the Certifying Official if you:

  • Have exhausted your Veteran Education Benefits
  • Change your course load or program of study
  • Withdraw from or drop classes
  • Terminate enrollment

Readmission of Service Members

Service members returning after active duty will be promptly readmitted with the same academic status as before their service. For more information, call 404-297-9522 ext. 1602 or email admissions@gptc.edu.

Transfer Students

If you are transferring benefits from another school, complete the Request for Change of Program or Place of Training form via VONAPP. Questions? Contact veterans@gptc.edu.

Student Responsibilities

  • Submit your VA Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to veterans@gptc.edu.
  • Only courses required for your approved program will be certified for VA payment.
  • Certification is processed after the Add/Drop period each semester.
  • Notify the VA Certifying Official of schedule, program, or contact information changes immediately.
  • Students using Chapter 30, 1606, or 1607 benefits must verify enrollment monthly at gibill.va.gov/wave or by calling 877-823-2378.
