How Funding Works

Each Dual Enrollment configuration comes with its own specialized funding from the Georgia Student Finance Commission. The grant programs we use the most are Dual Enrollment, HOPE Career Grant, and ACE Grant. Students also have the option to self-pay if necessary.

  • Dual Enrollment Funding
    • Students taking regular dual enrollment classes with plans to transfer to a 4-year college or continue on a degree path can use Georgia Futures Dual Enrollment Funding for up to 30 credit hours. This funding can be applied to career pathway courses for 10th graders, and both career and academic courses for 11th and 12th graders. Students must maintain a GPA of 2.0 for career courses and 2.5 for academic courses. To receive this funding, students must:
    • Create a Georgia Futures application
    • Have their courses approved by their high school counselor
    • Confirm their Social Security Number is correct
    • For males age 18 and up, register for Selective Service
    • Reapply to GA Futures every school year
  • HOPE Career Grant Funding
    • The HOPE Career Grant funds programs that will prepare students for the workforce. To use the HOPE Career Grant, students must:
    • Create a Georgia Futures application
    • Enroll in a HOPE Career Grant approved program (view approved program list)
    • Complete the residency form
    • Have courses approved by high school counselor
    • Confirm their Social Security Number is correct
    • For males age 18 and up, register for Selective Service
    • Reapply to GA Futures every school year
  • Accelerated Career – ACE Grant Funding
    • The ACE Grant is specifically used for the Accelerated Career program. Students in this program have the opportunity to graduate high school with credentials to go directly into the workforce. To receive this funding, students must:
    • Create GSFAPP application-- this application lasts for 10 years!
    • Be enrolled in 2 ACE-approved Technical College Certificate of Credit programs, OR a Diploma program, OR an Associates Degree (view program list here)
    • Remain enrolled in high school and complete 9 required high school courses: 2 English, 2 Math, 2 Science, 2 Social Studies, and 1 Health PE
    • Review the Accelerated Career pathways breakdown Here.
  • Self-Pay
    • Students have the option to self-pay for their dual enrollment courses. Here are some reasons a student might self-pay:
    • Took courses that weren't approved by their high school counselor in GA Futures
    • Failed a course--failed courses will not be funded
    • Retaking a failed course
    • Failed to meet SAP requirements
    • Took a course that isn't approved by their funding source or their program of study (view DE Course Directory)
    • Ran out of GA Futures funding
    • To set up self-pay with GPTC, the student will need to:
    • Receive approval from their high school counselor
    • Complete the residency form
    • Complete the self-pay form

Eligibility Requirements

  • GPA Requirements
    • For Career Pathways, students must meet and maintain a GPA of at least 2.0.
    • For Academic Pathways, students must meet and maintain a GPA of at least 2.5.
    • If your GPA is below the minimum for your pathway, you can take the Accuplacer placement test or submit eligible ACT, SAT, or PSAT scores in reading, writing, and/or math to meet the placement requirements. To submit test scores, email us at DualEnrollment@GPTC.edu.
    • If you'd prefer to take the Accuplacer, you can sign up for a testing appointment here: GPTC Assessment Center – Schedule the Accuplacer
  • Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
    • Students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) eligibility to participate in dual enrollment. This includes maintaining a 2.0 cumulative GPA, and completing at least 2/3 of the classes for which the student registered. Failure to meet these requirements for two semesters will result in academic suspension. Submit placement scores to dualenrollment@gptc.edu. Students are exempt from placement testing with a high school transcript if your cumulative, high school unweighted GPA is: 2.5 for Academic Courses 2.0 for CTAE courses Students below the GPA minimum can submit placement test scores of ACT, PSAT, SAT, and/or ACCUPLACER
  • Selective Service Requirements for Dual Enrollment
    • Effective Summer term, fiscal year 2023, the Georgia Student Finance Commission added a new requirement. All males, US Citizens and immigrants, are required to register with the United States Selective Service System, in accordance with O.C.G.A. § 20-3-519.1(b). This is for all males ages 18 through 25. Students must be registered with the Selective Service System before dual enrollment funds are awarded. Eligible males may register 30 days prior, to their 18th birthday, but are not required to register until they are 18. This includes all males who will turn 18 during an enrollment term. Failure to register for the Selective Service System will result in the student and/or family being responsible for paying the cost of tuition and books.
